Anorexic Twins Weighed 55 Pounds

Australian Anorexic Twins That Vowed To Weigh 55 Pounds Die Together In House Fire, Anorexic twins from Australia, who once stated their weight goal included shrinking down to 55 pounds, died together in a house fire on Monday evening. Rachel and Clare Wallmeyer also previously noted they planned to die together, according to the New York Daily News. Preliminary reports about the fire do not indicate anything of a suspicious nature caused the blaze. The house fire, which killed the anorexic twins, may have been caused by a cigarette.

The anorexic twins were found on the living room floor of their Geelong, Australia home. The small town is approximately 50 miles southwest of Melbourne. One of the Australian anorexic twins sisters was already dead when firefighters arrived; the other died a few hours later at a local hospital.

Rachel and Clare Wallmeyer had battled anorexia for years and reportedly believed the disease would kill them one day, News.com.au reports. During an interview with 60 Minutes in 2004, the anorexic twins gained worldwide attention. The Australian anorexic twins stated, “We live to die.” Clare and Rachel Wallmeyer reportedly exhibited a skeletal physique and admitted to eating only a slice of watermelon or a can of diet soda during a typical day. The anorexic sisters also stated during the 2004 interview that they routinely took laxatives to lose weight.

In 1984, when the Australian anorexic twin sisters were 14, they weighed just 61 pounds. The New York Daily News notes that long-distance running became their “obsession.” Anorexia was not the only problem which plagued the Australian twins. In 2010, Rachel Wallmeyer was charged with attempted murder for allegedly attempting to kill Clare Wallmeyer during what police officers referred to as a drunken fight. The Australian anorexic twins also had several charges related to drugs and theft.

Death sought for man accused of killing mom, half brother, Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty for a Nebraska man charged with killing his mother, throwing his 5-year-old half brother in a river and leaving his 11-month-old half brother in a dumpster. Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine said Monday that several aggravating factors exist in the case against Roberto Martinez-Marinero. Authorities say Martinez-Marinero surrendered to police Thursday and said he'd stabbed his mother, 45-year-old Jesus Ismenia Marinero. The 25-year-old man also said he had thrown Josue Ramirez-Marinero in the Elkhorn River and put Angel Ramirez-Marinero in the dumpster. Authorities found a body Monday that investigators believe is Josue, but a forensic examination will be conducted for confirmation. The boy's family has been notified. Angel was found bruised but alive Wednesday in the dumpster in La Vista. His mother's body was found Wednesday night in a southeast Omaha ditch. Klein...
