Rielle Hunter & John Edwards - John Edwards quietly asked mistress Rielle Hunter about her growing baby bump — and in the next breath insisted to campaign staffers that the two were not having an affair, a political aide testified yesterday. “I heard him ask Rielle if she was showing yet,” former campaign “body man” John Davis said about a September 2007 phone call he overheard between Edwards and Hunter in a New Hampshire Holiday Inn. “Can people tell that you’re showing?’’ asked Edwards, who commonly borrowed Davis’ cellphone for private calls to Hunter, the aide said. But when Davis inquired about an affair, Edwards denied it. Soon afterward, at a Detroit hotel, Hunter went into Davis’ room and explained that “she and Senator Edwards were very much in love,” Davis said.
