Aly Raisman Receives Unique Marriage Proposal

US gymnast Aly Raisman receives marriage proposal during autograph session, To say that Aly Raisman’s life following her breakthrough performance at the Olympics in London has been something of a whirlwind would be a massive understatement. Not surprisingly, Raisman has been an in-demand individual stateside since returning home, including the Massachusetts native receiving the honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch before a Boston Red Sox game at Fenway Park to appearances on late-night talk shows and other such demands upon her time.

But even as Raisman adjusts to her newfound fame and notoriety, nothing likely prepared her for what occurred during an autograph session last Friday in Los Angeles, when one obviously smitten fan seized the opportunity to propose to the gymnast.

According to an US Weekly report, while signing autographs at an L.A. Office Depot, Raisman was the recipient of a marriage proposal from a fan and the ring presented to her was just as “unique” as the timing and oddness of the request:

“I got proposed to with a [candy] ring pop, so that was interesting and funny,” Raisman — who took home gold as part of Team USA’s Fierce Five alongside Kyla Ross, McKayla Maroney, Gabby Douglas and Jordyn Wieber – told Us Weekly at Friday’s event.

Sadly for the smitten fan, Raisman turned down the proposal, instead offering her would-be suitor an alternative to her hand in marriage, saying, “I still took the ring pop and I gave him a picture.” Hey, better than nothing, right?
